She initially ran for the position of Sacramento District Attorney in 1994 and has run unopposed since that time. Jan attended California State University, Sacramento for her undergraduate career and graduated with her law degree from Lincoln Law School. After graduating, Jan began her career working as the deputy district attorney in Sacramento County District Attorney's Office, followed by a 5 year run as a supervising attorney.
