{"id":371,"date":"2013-06-27T16:45:34","date_gmt":"2013-06-27T23:45:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.recordgone.com\/news\/?p=371"},"modified":"2018-08-17T09:48:37","modified_gmt":"2018-08-17T16:48:37","slug":"recordgone-com-founder-testifies-in-support-of-california-expungement-bill","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.recordgone.com\/news\/2013\/recordgone-com-founder-testifies-in-support-of-california-expungement-bill\/","title":{"rendered":"RecordGone.com Founder Testifies In Support of California Expungement Bill"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Mathew Higbee, founder of\u00a0 the <a title=\"Higbee &amp; Associates\" href=\"https:\/\/www.higbeeassociates.com\">Law Firm of Higbee &amp; Associates<\/a> and <a title=\"RecordGone Expungement Law Firm\" href=\"https:\/\/www.recordgone.com\">RecordGone.com<\/a>, testified in favor of changes to California\u2019s expungement law in front of the California State Assembly Judiciary Committee on Tuesday, June 25th.\u00a0 Higbee was speaking in support of Senate Bill 530 (SB 530), authored by Senator Roderick Wright.<\/p>\n<div class=\"image-box\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"float:left; padding:5px 10px 10px 0\" alt=\"Mathew Higbee at the California State Assembly\" src=\"https:\/\/www.recordgone.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/mat-higbee-judiciary-california-state-assembly-06-25-13-03-300x225.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><\/div>\n<p>Higbee told the committee that <a title=\"RecordGone California Expungement Law\" href=\"http:\/\/www.recordgone.com\/statutes\/california-penal-code-section-1203-4.php\">California\u2019s current expungement law<\/a> does not achieve the public policy goals often associated with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.recordgone.com\/expunge-criminal-records.htm\">expungement<\/a>, because some employers still discriminate on the basis of expunged cases. \u00a0 \u201cIt is an incredible waste of human capital,\u201d says Higbee.<\/p>\n<p>The current version of the bill (which Higbee says will probably be amended prior to implementation) would increase the protections provided to those who have had their <a href=\"https:\/\/www.RecordGone.com\/expunge-criminal-records.htm\">record expunged<\/a> by preventing expunged convictions from appearing on most categories of the California Department of Justice Criminal Record Reports (commonly called <a title=\"California Live Scan Reports on RecordGone\" href=\"https:\/\/www.recordgone.com\/livescan.htm\">Live Scan reports<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>Senate Bill 530, which has already been approved by the Senate, was passed on Tuesday by the Assembly Judiciary Committee by a vote of\u00a0 6 to 3. \u00a0 The bill must now be approved the Assembly Appropriations Committee before being forwarded to the floor for a vote by the full Assembly.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Mathew Higbee, founder of  the Law Firm of Higbee &#038; Associates and RecordGone.com, testified in favor of changes to California&#8217;s expungement law in front of the California State Assembly Judiciary Committee on Tuesday, June 25th.
