The California Superior Court launched a \u201cplan to achieve significant cost savings at a time of unprecedented budget cuts.\u201d The Superior Court of California anticipates that the closures will help minimize costs for the state.\u00a0 While the closures will cut expenses, The Wall Street Journal reports that the closure is a \u201cprojected $50 to $80 million budget shortfall\u201d that will impact nearly \u201c9.9 million residents of Los Angeles County, the nation\u2019s most populous\u201d county.<\/p>\n
The closures have resulted in layoffs within the courts.\u00a0 Unfortunately, this means that the closures may cause some delays in processing court documents and the availability of trials.\u00a0 “Now that the courts have closed, the cases are being transferred to other courts that have a pre-existing workload.\u00a0 The thought of how the courts that remain open will handle the additional workload that they will inherit from the closed courts is a big concern,” says Attorney Jennifer Strange.<\/p>\n
